Mirfield CC Golf Day 13th July 2007

For the superstitious, arranging the 3rd annual Mirfield Cricket Club Golf Day for Friday the 13th July was always a risky business. And so it proved. The heavy nimbostrati that had formed earlier in the morning would persist for the day, bringing incessant rain throughout the tournament and testing the golfing resolve of some 30 men to the limit.

Following the traditional Bacon Sandwiches, Coffee and unavoidable administration, 27 intrepid golfers, attired in an array of wet suits, caps and umbrellas progressively made their way to the 1st tee for the start of the morning 9-hole singles Stableford competition.

Having completed this short endurance, some respite was awaiting in the clubhouse where the golfers were served with the now much loved DDGC Steak and Ale Pie and customary alcohol beverages (not all could wait that long!) whilst awaiting to hear the outcome of the draw for the main competition - an 18-hole pairs Stableford competition.

The numbers had now swelled to 28 (1 out - 2 in) re-attiring themselves accordingly for the conditions that were steadily worsening and, inevitably, the less than ideal golfing climate did bring a few withdrawals along the way.

However, the majority did complete the arduous 18-holes and after attempting to dry themselves out, proceeded to Mirfield CC where they were served a light buffet and awaited the results of their endeavours.
