Thurstonland B bt Mirfield B by 79 runs.

Thurstonland B 231 for 6 (I.Short 69, A.Cox 56, R.Hunter 48, J.Alder 23.)
v Mirfield B 152 for 4 (G.Whitworth 50, S.Kirkby 32, T.Kellett 20.)

Well after the win last week it was back to a reality check as we where out played in all three areas of the game this week, away at Thurstonland. Having managed to get the convoy to arrive at the lovely ground that is Thurstonland, the captain won the toss and decided to allow the home side the first use of the wicket, which still had some moisture and therefore may offer the bowlers some help.

The bulk of the team agreed this was the correct decision, with hindsight, perhaps belief in our newly found batting ability should have swayed to batting first. Hey ho life goes on. Smith and Eastwood given the new ball gain and both did well. Smith bowled Motram in his third over. Eastwood bowled well again but started to lag in the midday sun. 5 overs each saw the home side at 29 for 1 after 10. Longworth replaced Smith and Haigh replaced Eastwood. The next 10 overs saw 35 runs with the only wicket that of Adler bowled by Haigh.

The sun obviously affected the boys as the fielding was not up to our usual high standards, the bowling struggled to keep to one side of the wicket, and so therefore setting a field was nearly impossible. Catches win matches and all that saw no less than 4 catches dropped through the course of the innings. One dropped catch allowed Short to go on and get 69 when he could and should have been out for 20ish. Anyone reading this who is not a Mirfield player will no doubt know Trevor 'the cat' Kellett, who after a long debate with the skipper regarding fielding positions followed a skier, not known to him new boy Shaz 'sack the quarterback' Riaz was also in hot pursuit of said ball. You've been framed and all that, everyone saw it coming.... Kellett held the catch, BANG, takedown, Riaz dropped Kellett like he had a £100 bet he could kill Kellett with one tackle. Thankfully both came away unhurt, and Kellett managed to hold onto the ball.

Not much more to be said, Thurstonland batted well and set a very good total, picking the gaps and running the singles when they could. Bowling which usually for us is decent perhaps lacked that extra sparkle and all in all we let them get away. Tea taken with heads down slightly but in the knowledge, if they could do, it was not impossible for us.

Turbo Tim drafted into the first team left a gap at the top of the order, ably filled by Steve 'come on boys' Kirkby. Pollard looked to follow last week's effort, and after 7 overs, 26 on the board and things looked good. Pollard then fell to a halfhearted shot, caught easily by the waiting fielder. Graham 'swollen knee' Whitworth strode to wicket and after 11 overs the scoreboard read 50 for 1, on the road to victory perhaps. Then again perhaps not.... Kirkby fell to a mistimed single, which the bowler did well to have a direct hit. Whitworth plugged away as first Denton, then Kellett and then finally Eastwood went out to join him. The run rate dropped off and Denton fell for 11, and Kellett for 20. Eastwood and Whitworth saw out the overs. Whitters finished on 50 not out and Easty on 12 not out. The innings closed on 152 for 4.

Positives where again our batting looked good and we saw out 45 overs, not a common thing for the limers. 1 point in the bag, and to be fair Thurstonland where the better team on the day.
